December 15th 2017. Today is the day we officially activate this Blog section of our website. We do this for two reasons; to keep people up-to-date on progress and to provide occasional news and views.
At present, plans to have the disused railway running between Collooney and Bellaghy in Co. Sligo, are progressing nicely. As it becomes more and more obvious that the train will not run again in the foreseeable future, the prospects for the greenway become brighter and brighter. This coupled with the countless greenway success stories from other counties leave the proposal in the “not if, by when” bracket. In recent months new greenways in Westmeath and Waterford have been creating headlines, not to mention growth in tourism and new businesses for both counties. Subsequent blogs will feature both of these new greenways. They are an example to us all.
We are also inviting contributions to our blog page from ‘guest contributors’. So, if you have an opinion or a view, please email us. No more than 300 words please and send by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Include a good quality image if you wish.
This website has been up and running for over a year now and has served us well in that time. It will now get a slight facelift in an effort to keep the flag of the Sligo Greenway project flying and looking its best. The site is also the place where membership is available, taking the form of shares in the Co-op. Membership is from as little as €1 but buying more helps the group financially. Finances are used to promote the project as appropriate.
