MINISTER   SAYS   GREENWAY   WILL   NEED   LOCAL   AUTHORITY SUPPORT   TO   SECURE   FUNDING

​The Transport Minister says that pro-greenway campaigners in the region will be able to apply for funding under a proposed National Outdoor Activity Plan next year. Speaking in Sligo recently, Fine Gael Minister Paschal Donoghue said that the plan would be the framework through which local communities could access money for outdoor developments.

The Minister has previously indicated that he would be in support of the creation of a Greenway on the old Western Rail Corridor. However neither the department nor the Sligo County Council has committed to providing the money needed for a feasibility study into the proposals.

Speaking to Ocean FM Minister Donoghue said that while is happy to accept applications from Greenway campaigners under this new scheme, support from local authorities will be crucial:
